The Hunter Aboriginal Children's Services is a Community Driven and Government funded not for profit organisation. Its main functions are to provide foster care to Aboriginal children and young people of the Hunter Region and to support the families of those Aboriginal children and young people. As well as providing support to Aboriginal families in crisis and young people who have involvement with (or are at risk of involvement with) Juvenile Justice.
The main objective of the Hunter Aboriginal Children's Services is to keep Aboriginal children safe. We do this by supporting Aboriginal children, young people and their families. When children or young people cannot live with their family, we try to restore them with their natural (or birth) family and only when this is not possible, to place children and young people in culturally aware, trained and loving Aboriginal foster families. If you need to make a referral to our service, follow the Referrals link above.
The Hunter Aboriginal Children's Services currently has nearly over 40 Aboriginal foster families and can place up to 50 Aboriginal children and young people into long term foster care. The number will increase to 60 Aboriginal children and young people by 30th June 2011. The Hunter Aboriginal Children's Services has 16 employees including Case Workers in Out of Home Care (Foster Care), Family Support and Carer's Support.
If you are an Aboriginal person living in the Hunter or Central Coast Regions, and are able to provide a placement for an Aboriginal child or young person, then please download, complete and send back to us a Foster Carer Application Package. Follow the Carers link above.
If you are in need of Family Support and are Aboriginal or look after Aboriginal children or young people, we can offer you help or referral to an agency who can help. Contact our Case Worker Family Support for information about how we can help you.
From time to time the Hunter Aboriginal Children's Services will have Positions Vacant. Check this page often if you are interested in working for the betterment of Aboriginal child welfare.
